Solar Water Pumps: A Practical Way to Reduce Carbon Footprint and Save Energy

Home / Green Discussions / Solar Water Pumps: A Practical Way to Reduce Carbon Footprint and Save Energy

Have we been able to bring the groundwater, available in many areas, to practical use? We are left befuddled when confronted with this question. Yes, groundwater is available in abundance and we have used the water for irrigation, sustaining livestock and personal consumption. But this use has always been associated with waste. If we have used 1% of water, we have wasted 10% of groundwater. It’s true that pumps were designed to reduce waste, but not everyone could afford water pumps. Moreover, the internal combustion engines use excessive power, which means your electricity bills go up. Electricity, if not generated from renewable sources, would result in heavy carbon emission that only increases the pollution level.

So, what can be done to reduce environmental pollution and bring home or in the farmland free flowing water? Well, the easiest way would be by installing solar water pumps. Solar water pumps work on solar power, the most readily available source of renewable energy. The photovoltaic panels, also known as solar panels, capture solar radiation and convert it into electricity, which provides power to a connected motor that runs the solar pump. One of the biggest benefits of using a solar pump is you can do away with the complicated combustion engine that requires the consumption of harmful fossil fuels.

By installing a solar pump, you can actually cut down on the energy bills. The reason is the sole source of power is the sun and you do not need to pay a single penny on electricity bills. The pumps may be slightly more expensive, but come to think of the astonishing solar energy facts, it is cost-effective and you will be benefitted from it.

Solar energy is a renewable source of energy. Use of solar power reduces carbon footprints. Our main concern now is to save our planet that is facing imminent danger and decay. Global warming, carbon emission, greenhouse gas emissions are some of the causes. Obviously, if we reduce the consumption of fossil fuel, we can reduce the pollution level, thus, save our planet and its plants and species from obliteration.

Solar water pumps are very resourceful. People can get a fixed supply of water day and night. During daytime sunlight is readily available and at night, the backup energy that is stored in the battery is used to keep the pumps running. Here it is also important to mention that according to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the federal tax credit for residential energy property first applied to solar water heating systems, solar-electric systems and fuel cells. The Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008 extended the tax credit to small kinetic energy systems and geothermal heating pumps. So, people installing solar water pumps in their homes would get tax incentives for ecofriendly ventures. Solar pumps are also durable i.e. manufactured to last for a longer period of time.

Given the increasing prices of fossil fuels and high chances of their supply drying out in the near future, it makes sense to opt for renewable sources of energy. And installing solar water pump for irrigation or personal consumption would be a practical and economical option.
